(By Marina La Forgia) I always say that in terms of wines, quality price ratio is one of my premises. The other one is to taste the "difference" somehow. Well, the Hecula Monastrell is the kind of wine that perfectly match with my humble tasting expectations!
I invite you to discover this indigenous grape from Spain, the second most important in the country after Tempranillo, and also known and planted in France and internationally under the name of Mourvedre. Monastrell is a very strong variety and the perfect one to produce powerful and modern wines. If you want to experience the aromas and flavours of an original and very affordable red wine, then choose this wine made by Bodegas Castaño, in the DOP Yecla appellation. This winery produces "artistic" wines that reflects the pure Monastrell authenticity. On the nose it overflows the red fruit aromas and some sweet spices very common to the typicity, plus very pleasant notes of smoky wood and roasted coffee given by a short period in barrels to make this original wine even morecomplex. In the palate it's a very well structured wine, gentle and fruity.
Absolutely a must try if you want, like me, to go beyond in the never ending wine discovery!
